At Mill Creek Family Practice, our goal is to treat the whole patient, seeking and maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being. That includes the treatment, when appropriate, of our patients’ mental disorders.
What is a mental disorder? A mental or behavioral pattern that causes either suffering or a poor ability to function in ordinary life.
Why should I see my family practice provider? What about a psychiatrist or counselor? Our providers are trained and experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of common psychiatric disorders, and can also initiate referral to a counselor or psychiatrist, if indicated. In addition, some mental disorders may be affected by physiological problems such as thyroid disorders, which may also need treatment. Medication prescribed by your family practice provider may be important in alleviating suffering caused by mental disorders, and can help to speed the healing process.
Common, treatable mental disorders include:
- Eating disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Situational stress
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Substance Abuse
- Social Anxiety Disorder
If you suffer from any of the above, or suspect that you might, seek treatment with your Mill Creek Family Practice provider right away.
