“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
At Mill Creek Family Practice, we believe the above proverb, wise as it is, understates the case for prevention. We can’t make an exact, scientific estimation of just how much cure an ounce of prevention is worth but, in our opinion, it’s definitely more than a pound. In fact, it may be more than we can lift!
Good preventive practices don’t just save lives, they enhance them. Stopping a disease before it starts is the best quality of life decision you can make.
It starts with seeing your primary care provider.
Routine medical check-ups, or History & Physicals, even when you feel completely healthy, are one of the best things you can do for your long-term health and well-being. Children, adults, and seniors should all make and keep regular appointments. At these appointments, your physician will screen you for disease but also for risk factors, the signs of what might, in the future, become a problem.
Your provider can give you good, practical advice on how to cultivate and maintain healthy living habits.
Many of the major causes of disease, illness, and death, including obesity, skin cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer, are highly preventable with a healthy lifestyle and regular screenings.
At Mill Creek Family Practice, we especially recommend that expecting parents begin good preventive practices for both themselves and their child/children-to-be with routine visits. By doing this, we can help identify risk factors and instill good habits for life, making for healthy parents and children.
