Adolescent Medicine

The operative word in Mill Creek Family Practice is ‘Family’. We take pride in treating not just the whole patient but the whole family. We provide newborn treatment, geriatric treatment, and treatment for every stage in between. In addition to excellent care based on the best medical evidence, we strive to provide our patients with a caring, comfortable, familiar atmosphere for treatment.

One of our specialties is adolescent medicine.

As parents, you know that your adolescent children are not just under-aged under-sized adults (they may not be under-sized at all, by adolescence). They have different emotional, intellectual, and developmental characteristics and needs, go through different stages and phases, and require different, special care.

The same is true of their bodies. Adolescent bodies are in a state of growth and change. The most profound of these changes are often hormonal and result in specific physical and emotional phases, some of which may require treatment. We are experienced with the particular needs—physical, emotional, intellectual, and behavioral—of adolescence. We will give your adolescent child personal, compassionate care at every stage of development, for every problem.

As with all of our patients, we believe in a course of preventive care for adolescents. Schedule regular physical examinations even if the patient is ‘feeling fine’ and displays no symptoms. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor development as well as observe and asses potential risk factors (if any).

We treat all of the common adolescent illnesses and injuries including:

  • Delayed or precocious puberty
  • Acne (including ACCUTANE* therapy)
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Substance abuse
  • Birth control
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Unintended pregnancy
  • Eating disorders
  • Emotional issues which can be associated with this stage of life

We also offer the physical examinations necessary for some schools and sports programs.
